To helps us understand the role of softball umpires, let us first consider some details regarding softball.

Softball is a kind of sport played using bat and ball between two teams with ten to fourteen players. This sport is directly under baseball however there are some key differences such as the size of the ball, the game area and the form of throwing pitches.

Now that we already knew what is softball sport, let us now consider what are the roles of the umpires. In the game, umpires are responsible to make decisions related to the play and these are considered to be final in all respects. By using hand signals or vocalizing or by making a call, this indicate their decisions. They also control and monitor the game of softball.

Umpires that are allowed to participate in a game is between one to seven. There are three base umpires and three outfield umpires. There is also an indicator called as the clicker or counter. This indicators helps in keeping a track of the entire game.

How about the official uniforms of these umpires, what is required to wear? According to NCAA, ASA and ISF games, the required uniform that softball umpires must wear are navy blue slacks along with short which is light powder blue in color and a baseball cap which is navy blue in color.

If protest arise against the decision of the umpire, presence of an interpreter for rules or a Tournament Chief Umpire (TCU) is generally allowed to make judgments.
